Neighbourhood character
Neighbourhood character is the way the features of an area come together to give that area its own particular sense of place. In Nillumbik, all new residential development needs to respect and contribute to the neighbourhood character of the area.
The Shire's residential areas are divided into 18 neighbourhood character precincts. The precincts are also grouped into one of the following character types:
- Bush (B)
- Bush garden (BG)
- Eltham central (EC)
- Garden court (GC)
- Rural (R)
- Semi bush (SB)
