Disability Action Plan

Nillumbik Disability Action Plan front cover.JPG

The Disability Action Plan (DAP) provides the framework for Council to address disability and other access issues across all areas of operations and to support Council to meet its requirements under relevant legislation.

The DAP represents a whole of Council approach to addressing access and inclusion.

Council's Disability Inclusion Team consulted with people with disability, carers, local disability support providers and the Nillumbik community as well as with all areas of Council to develop Nillumbik's DAP.

The DAP addresses common barriers for people with disabilities. Some of the key actions in the plan include:

  • Advocate for more supported/independent accommodation for people with disability, including those not eligible for NDIS
  • Continue to maintain and, where appropriate, advocate to increase designated accessible parking across the Shire
  • Advocate for more public and community transport options for people with disability
  • Work with local businesses and Disability Employment Services to support initiatives that promote employment for people with disability
  • Ensure Council events are as accessible and inclusive as possible for all to participate and enjoy

The Disability Action Plan means a lot to our community. Everyone deserves to feel included and be able to participate. Watch this short video to hear people in Nillumbik talk about what inclusion means to them.
