Request a change to a bin service

The annual rate notice for your property includes a waste management charge. This includes the cost of the kerbside bin collection service provided by Nillumbik Shire Council.

For the standard bin service, the annual waste management charge for 2024-2025 is $658.35. This is payable with your rates.

What's included in the standard bin service?

The standard service includes:

Options for changing your bin service

If you want to change your bin size, get an extra bin or increase the frequency of your bin collection, you can request a change to your bin service. The options are outlined in the table below. Scroll across the table using the arrows to view all the details.

If you:

  • get a bigger bin or an extra bin, you might need to pay a fee to cover the cost of the new bin
  • change your landfill bin option, this will increase or decrease your annual waste management charge.

How to change your bin service

Before you start

Step 1.Use your bin space effectively

Before increasing bin size or collection frequency, check that you are making best use of your bin space.

  • Put food scraps in your green waste bin or home compost not the landfill bin.
  • Find ways to reduce your waste.

Step 2.Make sure you have the authority to order a bin service

You must be the property owner to order a new bin service.

Step 3.Understand bin limits

There are limits on the number of bins you can have:

Step 4.Proceed to order

If you are ready to submit your order:

  • click on the 'Online' tab above to order a bigger green waste bin, or
  • click on the 'Phone' tab to order any other type of bin.

Online

Please note that at this time, only a bigger green waste bin can be ordered online.

All other bin service options must be ordered by phone or in person.

Please note we do not accept Diners Club and American Express.

Step 4.Follow the bin swap instructions

If you are changing bin size, you will be provided with instructions for swapping it over.

Pay with cash, cheque, money order, EFTPOS, Mastercard or Visa. Please note we do not accept Diners Club and American Express.

If you are changing bin size, you will be provided with instructions for swapping it over. 

Cancelling non-standard bin service options

If you no longer need an extra bin or a bigger bin you can contact us to cancel these service options.
