In Nillumbik, bins are collected on the same day of the week.

  • Green waste bins are collected weekly.
  • Yellow recycling bins are collected fortnightly.
  • Red landfill bins are collected fortnightly.

If your collection day falls on Anzac Day, Good Friday, Christmas Day or News Years Day, the collection will occur the following day.

How to put your bins out

  • Place bins out by 6am on collection day, half a metre apart and away from trees, power poles and cars.
  • Squeeze any air from bags of rubbish before placing in your landfill bin. This will create more space in your bin, stop waste from getting stuck and prevent a partially-emptied bin.  
  • Do not over compact your bin.
  • Do not overfill - the lid must be closed.
