Cartons

  • Small drink cartons such as juice boxes and flavoured milks (up to 300ml) can be exchanged for a refund through the Container Deposit Scheme.
  • Dispose of other cartons in your red landfill bin.

Cartons are composed of a mix of plastic and cardboard. Tetra Paks/UHT or long life cartons are also lined with foil. The different layers make them hard to be sorted and recycled. In Victoria we don't have the technology yet but Nillumbik's recycling processor Cleanaway, have advised that they are working on a solution. Small cartons collected through the Container Deposit Scheme are processed in NSW into building materials.
