BMX bike jump removal
Frequently asked questions
September 2023
Why are bike jumps being removed?
There are many reasons why unauthorised bike jumps are removed but the most common reasons for removal are based on risk to community safety and environmental damage.
What are the environmental impacts of the unauthorised bike jumps?
Continual excavation of bushland disrupts local wildlife and vegetation which could have the following impacts:
- Damage to tree roots resulting in poor tree health and with potential to cause limbs to fall or death of tree.
- Placing dirt against the base of trees causes ring barking, resulting in the eventual death of the tree.
- Damage to plants caused by digging up or smothering small ground-storey vegetation including dormant plants such as bulbs and orchids.
- Erosion issues caused by changed groundwater flow.
- Removal of logs and woody debris impacts habitat for lizards, insects and small mammals.
- Continuous activity at site causes disturbance to native fauna making site uninhabitable.
