Maroondah Aqueduct Trail

This trail utilises the corridor of the historically significant Maroondah Aqueduct. The aqueduct was an engineering feat, following the contours of the land from Maroondah Dam in Healesville to Melbourne’s storage dam in Preston.

The alignment and gradient of the Maroondah Aqueduct provides an ideal family-friendly trail. The aqueduct has a relatively wide easement, picturesque setting, and a constant gradient, aside from the creek and road crossings.

There are two formally recognised segments of the Maroondah Aqueduct trail.

Diamond Creek Trail to Research (4km bitumen)

Bitumen trail suitable for prams, cycling, walking and running, connecting to the Diamond Creek Trail at Allendale Road. Crossings at Godber Rd, Allendale Rd, Parsons Rd, Afton St, Ingrams Rd and ending at Main Road in Research.

The Research Trail can be accessed from the Aqueduct Trail via Ingrams Rd (Research) which connects to the Diamond Creek Trail at Edendale Farm, creating a 9km loop through Research, Eltham, Eltham North and Diamond Creek.

Kangaroo Ground (structured dirt path)

Off-road trail suitable for cycling, walking and running commencing at Henley Road, the unsealed trail crosses Nicholas Lane and terminates at Calwell Road.

This section of the Aqueduct Trail also intersects with the Nillumbik Farm (Bridle) Trail at Nicholas Lane.
