Join us for an engaging community event focused on identifying local woody weeds and understanding the difference between native and invasive wattles in Nillumbik.
Council officers will go over impacts of woody weeds on biodiversity and how to recognise key species. This will include ideas on what natives you can use to replace the woody weeds you might have growing at your house.
We’ll also explore the diverse world of wattles - discovering which species are beneficial for the environment and which pose a threat to native ecosystems. We will go over some basic methods of identifying wattles, with lots of samples of local acacias we can use as reference.
This event is perfect for landowners, bushland managers and nature enthusiasts looking to deepen their knowledge and contribute to the health of Nillumbik’s landscapes. This will be very beginner friendly, and give some practical tips and skills that will help you identify plants in our local landscape.
