Music program

Summer Sounds on Friday 21 February will feature Bushwahzee, Ganga Giri, and Homeward.

Bushwahzee

Bushwahzee is an entertainment company based around the Bushwahzee Bush Band which has been performing bush dances in Melbourne since 1981.

As well as performing band gigs and functions, Bushwahzee has produced a number of theatre pieces - The Man They Call The Banjo, Barry Versus Kelly and most recently Adventure Before Dementia.

Representing Bushwahzee at Summer Sounds is dance caller, Felix Meagher. Felix is also the band’s manager and fiddle player. He will be demonstrating and calling popular bush dances such as The Heel and Toe Polka, Galopede, Stockyard, Troika and Hokey-Pokey.

Ganga Giri

No matter where he plays, Ganga Giri literally blows audiences away. For 30 years the Yidaki (didgeridoo) virtuoso has taken his one-of-a-kind sound worldwide, electrifying millions.

Driven by spirit, power and connection to Country, this Pallawa man does extraordinary things with Australia’s oldest instrument, forging new musical boundaries. The word ‘unique’ is overused in music circles, but rightly applies to Ganga’s various guises at festivals, corporate events, schools and more.

Homeward

Homeward is an acoustic folk duo that celebrates the Americana sound.

Maeve Grieve and Noah James have developed their own innovative and daring songwriting style born from their collaboration, taking the listener on unexpected turns. Their sound is characterized by the thoughtful interplay of their guitars and mandolin, warm vocal harmonies, and narrative lyrics, and is inspired by the music of Gillian Welch, Punch Brothers, Julian Lage and Norah Jones.
