Australia is the second-highest consumer of textiles in the world with most clothing we purchase made of non-sustainable, non-durable materials. Of all the clothes we send to op shops and charities, a tiny 15% are resold while the rest are sent overseas or straight to landfill. Yikes.

Fast fashion trends come and go in a blink, leaving mountains of textile waste in their wake. But what if there was a better way? A way to keep our wardrobes and manchester fresh and stylish, while minimising our environmental impact?

Join us for a session on REthinking your clothing and textile choices. We’ll talk about what sustainable fashion really means (hint: it’s not spending loads on expensive brands or resorting to an all-woollen wardrobe). It’s about mending, renting, restyling, swapping and respecting the items you already have, while resisting trends and the siren song of fast fashion that bombards us every day.

Together, we'll delve into:

  • the challenges of fast fashion and textile waste
  • the core principles of the circular economy for textiles
  • practical strategies for extending the life of your clothes
  • innovative solutions for keeping textiles in use
  • building a more sustainable and fashionable future.
