Bushland reserves and wetlands
Council manages 100 bushland and wetland reserves covering an area of 495 hectares.
In a fragmented urban and peri-urban landscape, these reserves provide an important refuge for Nillumbik’s unique range of plants and animals. They are also places where residents can spend time with nature and enjoy a range of cultural and recreational activities. Most weekends, volunteers from across the Shire work together to protect many of these reserves as part of a Friends Group
Council’s Environmental Works Team is responsible for conserving and enhancing the values of this land for future generations. Works include weed control, pest animal management, habitat enhancement, threatened species management, revegetation and fuel reduction. Visit the Environmental Works Toolkit page to find out more.
