Sugarloaf Link Project

Sugarloaf Link was a three-year $450,000 biodiversity conservation project funded with support from the Victorian Government through the Biodiversity Response Planning (BRP) program.

The project ran between January 2019 and October 2021 in localities surrounding the Sugarloaf Reservoir, including Christmas Hills, Bend of Islands, Watsons Creek and Kangaroo Ground. 

The project controlled deer, foxes and weeds across private and public land to enhance habitat connectivity and quality, and protect vulnerable species such as Phascogales, Dunnarts and a range of threatened orchids.

How you can help biodiversity

Continue managing pest plants and animals on your property. If you would like to do more to manage these, or need some support: 

  • consider joining your local Landcare or a friends group for advice about weed control or help with other works in your local area
  • contact Council or Melbourne Water about access to financial support to help control weeds and pest animals on your property
  • if you live adjacent to a public conservation reserve, contact the land manager to find out which weeds and pest animals you can control on your property to help protect these special places
