Family and Future (Past, Present and Future … emerging) is a series of interconnected panels and transitional paintwork. The artwork features First Nation’s symbology re-imagined in a vivid contemporary palette. The vitality and movement of the design considers the active community connection experienced when we gather together.
Born in Warrnambool in 1963 Fiona Clarke is a Kirrae Whurrong Aboriginal woman and a prominent First Nations artist and designer. Her practice incorporates painting, tapestry, design and public art. Her work is included in collections nationally and internationally and her public art can be found in Melbourne, Warrnambool, Colac, Camperdown and Terang.
This artwork is the first major commission associated with the Nillumbik Public Art Policy adopted in October 2019. Its commission represents a significant step in the representation of First Nations artists and artworks in the collection.
