Art heritage: The Heidelberg Artist Trail

The Heidelberg Artist Trail is a celebration of Victoria's rich artistic history and cultural heritage. Through various councils in Melbourne, this trail pays homage to the renowned artists of the Heidelberg School, showcasing their works and the landscapes that inspired them.

Nillumbik Shire Council is proud to be part of this initiative, which not only honours our artistic legacy but also promotes appreciation for our region's natural beauty. As custodians of our local heritage, we understand the importance of preserving these cultural landmarks for future generations.

Our efforts to care for this legacy took a significant step forward with the renewal of six signs along the Eltham section of the trail. Located in key areas such as Eltham Town, Alistair Knox Park, and Wingrove Park, these signs serve as windows into the past, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the world of the Heidelberg School. These signs, which had weathered over time, have been replaced with new materials and a more accessible design while retaining the essential information they convey and incorporating an Acknowledgment of the Country.

This renewal project was possible thanks to the support of the Living Local Suburban Grants Program, administered by the Department of Jobs, Precincts, and Regions from the State of Victoria.

Council is working to raise community awareness about vandalism and to help prevent and minimise this unfortunate problem. If you notice the signs are damaged, you can help us to restore them to their original condition. Please report it by using the mobile app Snap Send Solve or get in touch with Council.
