Land Management Incentive Program Grants

During the election period 17 September to 26 October 2024, Council will not be accepting, assessing or allocating grant applications in accordance with our Election Period Policy.  Applications will reopen on 27 October 2024. As such, expressions of interest are currently paused for the 2024/2025 LMIP round.

This grant program provides residents and community groups with financial support (and advice) for sustainable land management activities on private property that have positive environmental and/or sustainable land management outcomes.

Eligibility

To be eligible your property needs to be located in Nillumbik and be in the Green Wedge Zone, Rural Conservation Zone or have an Environmental Significance Overlay.

Full details and eligibility criteria are provided in the Land Management Incentive Program guidelines(PDF, 201KB)

Projects

Project activities may include weed control, revegetation, indigenous seed collection, works for threatened species conservation, rabbit control, fox control, pasture management, sustainable/regenerative agriculture enhancements, environment and land management education, and biodiversity or exclusion fencing.

They must result in environmental benefit.

Funding details

A maximum grant of up to $500 or up to $2,000 is available per (eligible) single property, or up to $10,000 for a community led cross-tenure or landscape-scale initiative.  There is a total grant pool of $60,000 per annum.

A 50% (matching) co-contribution of funds, materials or in-kind labour will usually be required.

Council officers can help you assess your land management options and priorities, and help you apply for the grant.

The application process

We invite you to submit a short 'register now' form to express your interest in finding out more about the LMIP grant program and whether you might be eligible (your form is submitted via our Smarty Grants system).  Alternatively, you are very welcome to call or email us for a chat first.

An officer will be in contact within 10 working days to discuss your interest and usually to arrange a site visit.

If appropriate, you will then be provided with a more detailed grant application form to fill out and submit.  A panel meets monthly to assess all applications.

Our Land Management Officer (or Biodiversity Officer) is available to assist you at every stage and will let you know the outcome.   (Please note that even if we're not able to provide you with a grant, we are always happy to chat and provide you with land management and biodiversity tips for your property).
