Referral authorities for planning applications

It is a good idea to talk to relevant authorities when preparing your application. They can identify and discuss any issues with your proposal and what to change to make it more likely to be approved.

Talk to these authorities to find out about:

• New development in a bushfire management overlay – Country Fire Authority
• Easements, flooding information – Melbourne Water
• Sewer and water plans, technical advice, asset information – Yarra Valley Water
• Internet and phone underground wires and easements – AusNet
• Main roads, access – Department of Transport and Planning
• Removing native vegetation – Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action
• Land contamination (water, asbestos, soil, old mine sites) – Environment Protection Authority

When we assess your application for a planning permit, we may be required to send it to referral authorities to get their advice and comments.
