Major Activity Centres

The Shire of Nillumbik includes two major activity centres located in Diamond Creek and Eltham. A major activity centre is an area that has been defined by the Victorian Government as the preferred hub for services, employment, housing, public transport and social interaction.

The intention of this planning control is to create well-designed, sustainable and vibrant major activity centres that: 

  • reflect a preferred local character
  • promote walking, cycling and use of public transport
  • promote local employment and a local economy
  • facilitate community life
  • provide housing diversity and choice
