We’re working to stabilise the Diamond Creek embankment in Alistair Knox Park.

Council has liaised with Melbourne Water on the planned works, which include remediating the eroded area and treating the embankment with rock beaching to prevent future erosion.

This will be the last component of works for this project, which included relocating the trail, a new retaining wall and a new fence.

Works are in progress and are expected to be completed by late July.

For the safety of trail users, access through this area will be closed during works. Please use alternate path connections through Alistair Park during this time (see map below).

Project update

10 July 2024: Thanks to trail users for your patience and for sticking to the detours while works to fix erosion were carried out on the Diamond Creek embankment. Recent extreme storm events caused severe erosion at this section of the creek, impacting the integrity of the bank. Rock has been brought in and manoeuvred into place to rehabilitate the bank and prevent further erosion. The new fencing along this section will now be finalised. At this stage there are no other areas of concern.

1 July 2024: Works are progressing well, but due to rain, Council have postponed further works until at least Wednesday 3 July to let the area dry out. This is to avoid tracking too much mud out onto the trail. Works now scheduled for completion by mid next week.

17 June 2024: After some delays, works are now commencing on site. Due to limited access and site availability, the rock material for the remediation will be stockpiled at the carpark near the Eltham BMX track. This material will then be tracked along the trail under spotter supervision to the location of works. Temporary traffic controls will be in place in the car park will up to six spaces required for the material. The project is now expected to take 3-4 weeks to complete, weather permitting.
