Step 1.Do your research

Make sure you have read all background information regarding the process of applying for a building permit.

Step 2.Talk to an expert

We recommend:

  • talking to Nillumbik Building Surveyors to get technical advice about building regulations
  • speaking with our Planning Services team to confirm if a planning permit is required
  • consulting with an expert such as an architect or draftsperson for building design advice

Step 3.Prepare your documentation

Ensure you have prepared all required supporting documentation as listed in the building permit checklists

Fees

Building permit fees are determined on a case by case basis taking into consideration the scope of the project, mandatory inspections required and the cost of the works.

If you would like to obtain a quote for your project please provide a set of plans and estimated cost of works for the project to building.admin@nillumbik.vic.gov.au

After your permit application is received, an invoice will be generated and emailed to you. This email will contain instructions about how to pay.

What happens next?

Once the application fee has been paid, your application will be assessed by a member of the Building Services team, who will contact you should they require any additional information.
