Living & Learning Nillumbik’s exciting annual exhibition of 2D and 3D art, diversARTy, is now open.
Held at the Eltham Library Community Gallery, diversARTy features paintings and drawings, ceramics, craft, leadlighting and more. The 70+ artworks on display are by Living & Learning Nillumbik tutors and participants and include collaborative submissions.
Mayor Ben Ramcharan said the annual event celebrates the work of professional artists, right through to beginners.
“The enduring popularity of the diversARTy exhibition is a testament to the relationships formed and creativity explored at Living & Learning Nillumbik,” Cr Ramcharan said.
“diversARTy is a key event on Nillumbik’s art and culture calendar.”
One group involved in the 2023 program is Arts for Health, a program designed to improve mental health and wellbeing by providing a welcoming place for participants to explore arts. Living & Learning Nillumbik runs an Arts for Health women’s and men’s group.
Annalies Visser, tutor for the Arts for Health women’s group, said the weekly sessions offer participants a structured space to celebrate artists and explore their creativity.
“Being part of diversARTy has really broadened the group’s artistic vision. We’ve explored sculpture-making using clay, wood and soft plaster,” Annalies said.
“Exhibiting can be such a huge confidence boost. Being celebrated, openly, is really meaningful.”
Visitors to the exhibition are invited to vote for the People’s Choice Award and Encouragement Award for the chance to win a $100 Living & Learning Nillumbik voucher. Many artworks are also for sale.
Living & Learning Nillumbik offers a broad range of creative courses for all ages across its three Neighbourhood Houses in Eltham, Diamond Creek and Panton Hill. These include clay, mosaic, life drawing, botanical illustration, macramé, watercolour painting and more. Other creative courses range from writing to guitar, dancing, cooking and photography.
The exhibition runs until Sunday 21 January. See livinglearningnillumbik.vic.gov.au/diversARTy for more information.
