Women in Sport Breakfast: celebrate and champion leadership

Join Olympian sprinter Mia Gross and a panel of amazing athletes and sporting professionals at the Bendigo Community Bank Nillumbik Women in Sport Breakfast, at the Eltham Community and Reception Centre, Friday 29 November, 7-8.30am.

Mia Gross will be the keynote speaker at the event, sharing her personal story of resilience, sacrifice, and overcoming challenges, before leading a panel discussion: Championing Leadership for Women and Girls in Sport.

Mia Gross
Mia is an Australian sprinter specialising in the 100m and 200m events. She recently competed in the 200m at the 2024 Paris Olympics and was part of the bronze medal-winning 4x100m relay team at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Mia is the current Australian and Oceania champion in the 200m.

As a junior athlete, she was a five-time Victorian and National Champion in the 100m, 200m and 400m, competing at the World Juniors in Finland and the Youth Commonwealth Games in the Bahamas. Mia has set 22 Victorian records and two Australian records and made history as the second female to win the Jack Donaldson 200m at the Stawell Gift.


Gabby Seymour
Gabby is an inaugural player for Richmond's AFLW team and a former international volleyballer, who switched to Australian football in 2019. She has finished on the podium in the club's best and fairest count three times and is the team’s Vice-Captain.

A qualified physiotherapist, Gabby works at the Richmond Institute, helping young people develop skills in strength and conditioning. Passionate about advancing women's sport, she was a 2023/24 Change Our Game Ambassador and played a key role in improving AFLW player conditions as a delegate for the AFL Players’ Association.


Leanne Del Torso
Leanne is a Paralympic silver medallist in wheelchair basketball, having represented Australia at the 2012 London Paralympics. She captained the national team for several years before retiring in 2018 after a 12-year career and 164 international games.

Leanne has transitioned into corporate life as a Community Coordinator at Medibank, drawing on her leadership skills developed through sport. She is passionate about empowering others, particularly in disability sport, and is actively connecting Victorian women with disabilities to wheelchair basketball through the creation of a development pathway. A proud mother, she continues to play basketball at the state level.


Penny Davis (they/she)
Penny has been a part of the Diamond Valley Roller Derby Club community for 12 years. As head coach and a longstanding executive committee member, Penny is dedicated to fostering inclusivity in sport, particularly for the LGBTIQA+ community.

They are passionate about empowering individuals to learn, grow, and feel strong through roller derby. Penny is committed to the development of accessible sports and building community for women, trans, and non-binary people in Nillumbik.
