Spring Outdoors is back!
Published on 14 August 2023
The annual program of environmental and nature events is brought to you in collaboration with Manningham and Banyule City Councils.
A range of outdoor and online experiences will provide an opportunity to connect with, learn about and protect our natural environment and biodiversity.
There’ll be nature walks, gardening tutorials, educational seminars and virtual events available online and in your local community.
Nillumbik Mayor Ben Ramcharan said the Spring Outdoors program is “a unique opportunity to learn about the diversity of our unique natural surrounds right here in Nillumbik Shire.”
This year’s Spring Outdoors campaign will also include a series of cultural events to celebrate caring for Country, connection with nature and knowledge sharing with Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung elders.
Nillumbik, Manningham and Banyule Councils, in collaboration with the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation, will host six events from September through to November.
The events will focus on collaboration, with the unique opportunity to learn about the importance of knowledge sharing, connecting with Country and sharing detailed local knowledge of the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung culture.
Talks will discuss the cultural significance of sites, communicating stories about gathering and place, bush foods and indigenous plants, their medicinal and cultural uses and the history of the landscape.
“We live in a special place, and it’s important that we listen to Uncles and Aunties as they have a lot of knowledge that they have graciously offered to share with us,” Cr Ramcharan said.
