Council has removed four trees in Cowin Street Diamond Creek, as part of proposed safety improvement works planned for the pedestrian crossing in Clyde Street. These works will include kerb extensions and a new accessible raised pedestrian crossing.

The removal of the trees was brought forward to address a number of recent safety incidents and ongoing pedestrian concerns for users of the footpaths, including those accessing the primary school. Tree roots were causing trip hazards and damaging the surrounding road.

The removal was completed during school holidays to reduce any risk or disruption to the public and school. The pedestrian crossing improvement works are scheduled to be undertaken in the summer school holiday period. Replacement of the removed trees will be assessed once these works have been completed and nature strip reinstated.

Updates regarding the pedestrian crossing improvement works will be posted to our Projects and works page, so check back in future for the latest news.
