As Mayor of Nillumbik, I am thrilled to work with our new team of councillors, each bringing unique abilities and a genuine passion for our community.

This December marks the 30th anniversary of the Nillumbik Shire Council, a milestone that underscores our commitment to honouring our heritage while building a future on strong foundations put in place by a collaboration between Councillors, officers and community both past and present.

Our first task is developing a new Council Plan, and we invite you to participate in shaping our community’s future. Keep an eye on our channels for engagement opportunities in the New Year.

Recently, we celebrated federal funding announcements from Rob Mitchell, Member for McEwan, for two key projects: $965,000 for the Diamond Creek Men’s Shed renovation and $901,103 for upgrading facilities at the Yarrambat War Memorial Park.

The upgraded Men’s Shed will encourage more people to get involved, creating opportunities for new users and expanding the reach of the Shed's programs.

The upgrades to Yarrambat War Memorial Park will significantly enhance local amenities and support growing sports participation. With improved facilities, we will see increased participation in sports clubs namely Yarrambat Junior Football Club and Plenty Valley Cricket Club that helps promote physical and mental health and social inclusion.

More participants will have access to a space where they feel comfortable changing, playing sport and socialising continuing to make Yarrambat and its surrounds a great place to live.

With summer here, remember it is time to review your Fire Safety Plan and that fire restrictions are in place. Visit the CFA website for details on compliance. Wishing everyone a safe and joyous festive season!

Nillumbik Mayor, Cr John Dumaresq
