We are seeking expressions of interest from residents who would like to join our Environment and Sustainability Advisory Committee (ESAC).

There are up to 11 spots for residents on the committee, which is also comprised of a member of the Nillumbik Youth Council, and two Councillors.

The ESAC helps Council consult with key stakeholders, seek specialist advice, and encourage community participation and feedback on initiatives, policies and strategies. Committee members join the ESAC for a two-year term.

At its meeting last week, Council endorsed the motion for a new committee to be recruited for the 2024-2026 term, and residents are now invited to apply.

Mayor Ben Ramcharan thanked the members of the current committee for their contributions, particularly in guiding Council’s Biodiversity and Urban Tree Canopy strategies.

“The ESAC is an important committee that does great work,” Cr Ramcharan said.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing what the next committee is able to achieve.

“If you care about the environment and sustainability within Nillumbik, please do consider applying – your skills and knowledge will be made good use of by Council,” he said.

The focus areas for the ESAC are related to:

  • Climate action (climate resilience, net-zero emissions, sustainable transport, waste management and circular economy, and integrated water management)
  • Biodiversity and land management.

Applications for the ESAC close 11.59pm Sunday 7 April. Applicants must read the Terms of Reference on Council’s website before applying – visit nillumbik.vic.gov.au/ESAC
