Council invites community groups, schools and not-for-profit organisations throughout the Shire to apply for a grant to celebrate International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD).

International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) is held on 3 December each year. The aim is to increase public awareness and understanding of people with disability, and celebrate their achievements and contributions.

Council offers grants of up to $1000 to support community groups, schools and not-for-profit organisations to run events or activities to celebrate IDPwD and highlight disability inclusion in Nillumbik.

Grant applications open today and close on 14 August.

Nillumbik Mayor Ben Ramcharan said “IDPwD is a chance to promote awareness and understanding of disabilities, and help Australia become more inclusive.”

“Last year, grant-funded inclusive activities included live music in Eltham Town Square, Lego Masters events for the autistic community and workshops where artists with disability used recycled materials to create a piece of community artwork at the Eltham Leisure Centre.

“Community events like these help to make Nillumbik more inclusive,’ he said.

If you want more information about the grants, or if you have an idea for a disability inclusive event or activity to be held between November 2023 and January 2024, call the Disability Inclusion team on 0438 277 428 or email inclusion@nillumbik.vic.gov.au
