Update - Thursday 11 January

Calwell Road in Kangaroo Ground is now open, making all Council roads open after the recent heavy rains.

Please continue to take note of signs as road conditions remain slippery in many parts.

Our crews are making the most of the good weather to get large sections of the trail cleared of debris and pressure-cleaning paths clear of mud.

Our road crews continue to clear drains and address other issues, including potholes and other damage to the road surfaces on our network of sealed and unsealed roads, including additional grading. Keep an eye out for the grader and backhoe in those areas.

A landslip on Eagles Nest Road in Arthurs Creek has been marked and barricaded with mesh and continues to be monitored. Repairs will be programmed once an engineering solution has been designed.

Our arborists have begun inspecting hazardous trees along the trail and in our reserves. Please take care near large trees, as the wet ground can make them unstable.

Many areas are still too wet to mow, and doing so would damage the surface of our reserves. We will monitor these areas and recommence mowing once these areas dry out.

Update - Tuesday 9 January

Clean up and repair works continue after the recent heavy rains.

Calwell Road in Kangaroo Ground is the only council road to remain closed. Please continue to take note of signs and do not drive through water, roads conditions remain slippery and we urge all road users to exercise caution.

We’ve received several reports regarding fallen and dangerous trees and these continue to be addressed. From tomorrow we will begin tree assessments along the trails, and hazardous trees will be removed.

Drains in many parts of the Shire have been cleared. This will continue throughout the week.

Cleaning of the trail will commence tomorrow, starting in Hurstbridge and heading south. Waters continue to run fast and remain high in places. Several places have significant debris to be remove and subsequently pressured cleaned to remove mud.

Update - Monday 8 January

Following the recent heavy rain event, our crews are out across the Shire assessing, clearing and sweeping local roads and drains.

Several roads have been closed including Fox Road, Smiths Gully and Calwell Road, Kangaroo Ground. Residents are asked to use alternative routes while flood water recedes and repair works are undertaken to make safe.

We continue to monitor other roads within the Shire and will advise of further closures as they are implemented.

We are working closely with VicRoads to support their work at Eltham-Yarra Glen Road near Simpsons Road and Yan Yean Road, both of which have been significantly impacted.

Our kerbside bin collection has been interrupted in streets experiencing flooding. Contractors will collect the rubbish as soon as it is safe for trucks to enter those locations.

Parts of the Diamond Creek Trail are underwater. Once safe access is available, our crews will be out clearing paths of debris and assessing the integrity of trees along the trail and other areas impacted by the floods.

Further closures are expected throughout the week as water moves through waterways into the Diamond Creek and other local waterways.

Please take care when you are out and about. Do not drive or walk through flood waters.
