Get ready to serve up some fun at the Nillumbik Pop Tennis Open – an exciting and FREE youth event brought to you by Council in partnership with Tennis Victoria during the school holidays.

POP Tennis is a modified version of a traditional tennis game. It is shorter, quicker, and easier to play – with anyone, at any time.

Council is excited to host this fun and inclusive event at the Diamond Valley Sports and Fitness Centre on Tuesday 8 April from 1pm to 3pm, and there’s no need to book ahead, just POP in on the day.

The Australian Sports Commission has provided funding to enable Council to present the action-packed afternoon, with a $10,000 grant designed to promote youth engagement in sports through fun and inclusive activities.

Council invites young people aged 12 and above, of all skill levels, to come along and compete for fantastic prizes, including generous vouchers for the winners.

The tournament is designed to be welcoming to everyone, so whether you're an experienced player or new to the game, there's something for you.

Participants will also receive a FREE show bag upon arrival, packed with goodies to enjoy. But the excitement doesn’t stop there - if you need a break from Pop Tennis or PickleBall, enjoy FREE entry to Jump Shots Basketball.

Mayor John Dumaresq said the event was an opportunity to support local youth development and foster a sense of connection through sports.

"This event is all about bringing teenagers together for a day of fun, fitness, and friendly competition," said Cr Dumaresq.

"We are excited to offer a completely free, accessible experience that will allow young people to try out Pop Tennis, PickleBall, and basketball in a vibrant, supportive environment."

Don’t miss the chance to make new friends, enjoy a variety of sports, and take home some great prizes.

The three new popular forms of tennis – pickleball, padel and POP have recently experienced rapid growth, after being first established in 1898.

POP tennis was showcased for the first time at the Australian Open this summer, following its recent surge in popularity, particularly in the United States.

Mark your calendars and be there for this exciting school holiday event.
