Changes in the lead up to Council elections
Published on 16 September 2024
Council elections will be held on Saturday 26 October.
During the election period, there are restrictions on what Council can promote, what business is conducted and how decisions are made.
This ensures that elections are ethical, fair and equitable. It also ensures that ordinary Council business can continue in a responsible and transparent way.
The election period starts at noon on 17 September and runs through to 6pm on 26 October.
You may notice communications such as email newsletters and social media posts are less frequent or shorter. We will also pause community consultation unless it is essential, and grant applications and assessments will also pause.
Council meetings will only be held for essential matters and Advisory Committee meetings will not be held.
These changes ensure that the current Council doesn’t commit the new Councillors to policies or projects that they haven’t had a say in. It also ensures that all candidates are given a fair and equal opportunity.
