Capital works round-up

While we’ve been in caretaker mode for the council elections, works have continued across the Shire. Here’s an update on some of the key works currently underway or planned to commence shortly.
Alistair Knox Park Changing Places toilet facility (pictured)
Nillumbik’s first Changing Places facility is in the final stages of completion in Eltham including landscaping and new pathways. This upgrade creates fully accessible facilities for all visitors including all those with complex needs. There are a further two accessible toilets and four standard cubicle toilets. The project is due for completion by late November.
Ironbark Road
The $1.2 million safety upgrade to Ironbark Road is complete. The works, funded via the Federal Government's Black Spot Program, include improvements to road safety at key intersections including traffic islands, new signage, rumble strips, sealed shoulders, and guardrails from Yarrambat to Diamond Creek.
Diamond Valley Library outdoor space rejuvenation
This project provides a revitalised outdoor space to allow library services to expand outdoors, enable outdoor learning opportunities and activities on nature and the health and wellbeing benefits of growing food. Completion is expected by December.
Eltham North Dog Park drainage outlet works
Works include the construction of a new stormwater outlet and rock beaching are scheduled for completion in November.
Ryans Reserve rejuvenation project
Construction at the new community park at Ryan’s Reserve, Diamond Creek, is expected to be complete in December. The works include a new playground, exercise equipment, landscaping, BBQs, shade sails, shelters, benches and paths. The new public toilets also form part of the project with an aim to complete in December/early 2025.
Broad Gully/Bellbird Road Intersection
This intersection in Diamond Creek is undergoing a critical safety upgrade. Road realignment, improved lighting and signage are part of the project, to address visibility and safety concerns for all road users. Construction is scheduled for late January 2025.
Cowin Street pedestrian crossing improvements
Works will be undertaken near the intersection of Clyde Street and Cowin Street in Diamond Creek, to improve safety for motorists, pedestrians and the school crossing supervisor. Works expected to commence December 2024.
Diamond Creek Tennis Courts upgrade
Reconstruction of two courts at the Diamond Creek Tennis Club is scheduled to commence in November. The project will see new asphalt bases and synthetic surfaces on courts three and four in Phipps Crescent to meet competition standards.
