The late Frank Nankervis, a former Eltham Shire Councillor and Shire President, was instrumental in the establishment and ongoing development of the Hurstbridge High School which was located on the site of the Hurstbridge Community Hub in the 1960s. Mr Nankervis was also heavily involved in the provision of a number of other services to the Hurstbridge community, including reticulated water and sewage. Mr Nankervis’ contribution to the Hurstbridge community was previously recognised in 2006 when the former Hurstbridge High School Library was officially opened as the ‘Frank Nankervis Building’. The building operated as a community centre run by a board of community members until the site was redeveloped into the Hurstbridge Community Hub in 2014.
Frank Nankervis passed away in April 2008. His lifelong commitment to serving his community was recognised in July 2008 when he was awarded the Order of Australia medal posthumously: “For service to the communities of Hurstbridge and Arthur’s Creek through a range of veterans’ welfare, municipal and service organisations.
