Voter information

The Nillumbik election will be held this October. The election will be conducted entirely by post - a safe and completely secret method of voting.

Voting is compulsory for all enrolled voters. You may be fined if you don’t vote.

Registered voters will receive a ballot pack in the mail in early October. Not every person in the household will get a ballot pack on the same day. Make sure you use the ballot pack with your name.

You will vote for a councillor to represent your ward.

See the map of Nillumbik wards or the list of candidates.

Your vote must be in the mail or hand delivered to the election office at 970 Main Road Eltham by 6pm on Friday 25 October 2024. Local mail collection times differ. Check the collection time on your post box to make sure your vote is in the mail on time.

Visit the VEC website to find out what to do if you're away during the election.

The VEC conducts elections on behalf of all Victorian councils. For detailed and up to date information about the election, visit the VEC website, or call 131 832.

Types of voters

In a council election there are two types of voters:

  • State-enrolled
  • Council-enrolled

You have one vote per council. If you are a state-enrolled voter, that is the enrolment you use to vote.

State-enrolled

If your address on the state electoral roll is in Nillumbik Shire, you must vote in the Nillumbik council election. If you don’t vote, the VEC may issue you a fine. To check your enrolment, visit the VEC website.

Council-enrolled

Some ratepayers who are not on the state roll can apply to become council-enrolled voters in Nillumbik. Read about council-enrolled voters
