The Local Government Inspectorate has published a new fact sheet to support new and returning candidates ahead of the local government election period.

Authorisation of materials

This fact sheet provides important information about authorisation requirements for all electoral material, including authorisation of social media content.

Rights and responsibilities around train stations

Metro Trains would like to remind candidates of their rights and responsibilities around railway stations. Read the attached letter(PDF, 44KB) regarding permits and station access, and distributing political material and campaigning on the metropolitan rail network.

Information requests from candidates

Candidates have equal rights to information from Council that is relevant to their election campaign. To ensure Council doesn't unfairly provide an advantage or disadvantage to a candidate, Council will maintain a register of information provided to candidates during the election period on this website.

Donations

All local government election candidates are required to provide a record of whether they did or didn't receive any donations, gifts or in-kind support for their election campaigns.

Donation return forms are included in candidate information packs from the VEC and must be submitted to the Nillumbik Shire Council CEO by Thursday 5 December 2024, even if you don’t receive a donation or gift. A summary will be published on Council’s website. For more information, visit the becoming a local council candidate page on the VEC website.

The Local Government Inspectorate has published a Campaign Donation Returns factsheet to support candidates. The factsheet provides important information about Campaign Donation Returns and how to correctly complete the forms.
