The Men's Shed was floated as an idea after the 2009 Black Saturday bushfires as a way of bringing together men of the community. Funding was made available from the Victorian Bushfire Appeal Fund to establish the Shed which was to serve as a hub for St Andrews and surrounding communities. St Andrews Men’s Shed is affiliated to the Australian Men’s Shed Association.
The Shed is now a venue for a diverse group of men of the district to come together for "gathering, sharing and enjoying", providing friendship, camaraderie and support.
Individual projects have also been carried out according to the interests of members - any member with a project can seek help from other members. Such projects have included carpentry, furniture restoration and small engine repairs.
